Southern Minnesota under tornado watch

Update:

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. for several southern Minnesota counties, including Freeborn County.

Also included in the watch are Waseca, Mower, Steele, Dodge and Olmsted counties.

The watch is in effect until 10 p.m.

Original story:

The National Weather Service is calling for possible severe scattered thunderstorms late this afternoon into the evening that could bring large hail and damaging winds.

An isolated tornado is also possible.

The weather agency states heavy rainfall is likely with thunderstorms that will develop tonight, with possible flash flooding from south central into east central Minnesota and far Wisconsin.

Tree and structural damage from damaging winds and large hail are possible.

The Weather Service states the most likely time frame for severe weather is during the afternoon with redevelopment this evening across south central and east central Minnesota. The initial round of severe weather is expected to develop this afternoon near Mankato and drift toward the northeast. The second round will develop this evening across southern Minnesota and continue overnight.
