Rockford pulls away late, beats Northwood-Kensett 9-5

Hoping to pull above .500 for the first time this season, the Northwood-Kensett softball team hosted Rockford Monday night.

Trailing by one heading into the sixth inning, the Vikings were unable to keep pace with the Warriors as they pulled away to win 9-5.

Both teams scored one run in the first inning and went scoreless in the second. The Warriors pulled away slightly in the third inning by scoring three run, however, the Vikings stayed close behind with one run in the fourth.

Northwood-Kensett scored three in the bottom of the fifth, but Rockford kept its foot on the gas, scoring three more in the sixth.

Freshman Teagan Johnson led the Vikings with two hits and two RBIs. Senior Jaela Parks, junior Kayla Senne and sophomore Addie Bachtle each added one hit to the total.

Senior Peyton Pangburn, Senne and Bachtle also contributed one RBI each.

The Vikings drop to 2-3 this season and will play again Friday night when they travel to Newman Catholic to take on the 6-1 Knights.
