Mower County sees another day of large growth in COVID-19 cases

Mower County reported 39 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

The county’s total case count has grown by more than 100 in the last five days and now is at 189 cases.

Freeborn County had eight new cases reported, pushing its total to 93. Information about the new cases was not immediately available.

According to the Freeborn County Public Health Department on Sunday, eight of the county’s cases had been hospitalized at some point during their illness. Numbers of people out of isolation are no longer being reported at the county level.

Steele County had one new case, increasing its total to 141, and Faribault County had one new case, moving its total to 12. Waseca County also had one new cases, and has now had 25 cases.

Statewide, there were 745 new cases reported Saturday, increasing the total across the state to 21,315.

Twelve new deaths were reported, increasing that number to 881. Of the deaths, 717 were people in long-term care or assisted living facilities. The new deaths were reported in Anoka, Hennepin, Nicollet, Sherburne and Washington County.

Of the total positive cases, 14,816 no longer need to be in isolation, and 605 are hospitalized, including 248 in intensive care.

The state department said 204.059 tests have been completed, including 22,011 through the state public health lab and 182,048 through external laboratories.

Statewide, the highest number of cases has been reported in Hennepin County with 7,168 cases and 539 deaths.

The next highest case totals are in Ramsey County with 2,437 cases and Stearns County with 1,950 cases.

Olmsted County has had 562 cases, and Rice County has had 386.
