More than 20 new COVID-19 cases reported in Mower County for 2nd day in a row

Mower County reported more than 20 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday for a second day in a row, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

The county had 26 new cases, increasing its total case count to 138.

Freeborn County had six new cases reported, pushing its total to 82. The new cases included two people under 10, two in their 30s, one in their 50s and one in their 60s, according to the Freeborn County Public Health Department.

Of the total cases in Freeborn County, there are now six who have been hospitalized at some time during their illness. The number of cases hospitalized went down by one due to the case being moved off the county’s list, the county department said.

Steele County had four new cases, increasing its total to 138, and Waseca County had one new case, moving its total to 24. Faribault County did not report any new cases.

Statewide, there were 847 new cases reported Saturday, increasing the total across the state to 19,845.

Ten new deaths were reported, increasing that number to 852. Of the deaths, 697 were people in long-term care or assisted living facilities. The new deaths were reported in Anoka, Cass, Clay, Hennepin and Ramsey counties.

Of the total positive cases, 13,485 no longer need to be in isolation, and 568 are hospitalized, including 215 in intensive care.

The state department said 189,493 tests have been completed, including 20,856 through the state public health lab and 168,637 through external laboratories.
