1st-time director brings ‘12 Angry Jurors’ to the Albert Lea stage

Local actors will perform the play “Twelve Angry Jurors” in the next two weeks in Albert Lea.

Adopted by Sherman L. Sergel, the play focuses around a 19-year-old man who has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. The jury deliberates a seemingly open-and-shut case, but Juror No. 8, played by John Laurie, has reasonable doubt. He tries to convince other jurors in the room of the facts of the case.

According to a plot synopsis, the jury’s final verdict and how they reach it is filled with tense scenes that will keep the audience at the edge of its seat.

The play will run at 7:30 p.m. March 2 through March 4 and at 2 p.m. March 5. The play will also be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 8 through March 11. All performances will be at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

Director Kris Bartley said the play focuses on going beyond a seemingly black-and-white issue.

“It’s very timely with what is going on in the country today,” she said.

“This show is all about critical thinking.”

This is Bartley’s first time directing a play. Auditions started in mid-January.
